Boating Regulations

No boat launched upon or used upon the waters of Peck’s Lake shall:

Have more than two motors and a combined H.P. of said two motors together shall not exceed 40 H.P.; and no boat shall have any motor which exceeds the manufacturer’s rated capacity for the particular boat.
Be of the hydroplane or racing type.
Exceed 20 feet in length, nor be less than 3 ½ feet in width, 13 ½ feet in length, or 14 inches deep.
Be loaded with persons or property in excess of the manufacturer’s rated carrying capacity.
Be operated at a greater rate of speed than 15 miles per hour, except for waterskiing and similar water sports conducted in the designated waterski zone during waterskiing hours, nor at a greater rate of speed than 5 miles per hour when within 200 feet of the shoreline or within 200 feet of an anchored or moored boat.
Violate the New York State Navigation Law, nor the rules and regulations of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Division of Motor Boats of the State of New York . When any of these regulations are more stringent than such law or rules and regulations, the provisions of these regulations shall apply.
Be used for other than recreational purposes.

In addition, the following rules apply:

No sailboat, canoe or like or similar boats or vessels shall be used in or upon the waters of Peck’s Lake unless it shall comply in all respects with the safety requirements of the Peck Family.

Rules regarding boat operators:

New York State law now requires that anyone under the age of 18 that desires to operate a boat must be in possession of a certificate stating that they have completed an approved safe boating course. In addition to this requirement, Peck’s Lake rules require:

No mechanically or motor propelled boat exceeding 3 ½ H.P. shall be operated by a child under 12 years of age, unless there be an adult present in the boat. No mechanically or motor propelled boat exceeding 6 H.P. shall be operated by a child under 14 years of age, unless there be an adult present in the boat.

CANOE , KAYAK, & PADDLEBOAT REGULATIONS

Any canoe, kayak, or paddleboat launched upon the waters of Peck’s Lake shall:

Be constructed of wood, aluminum, fiberglass, or Kevlar.
Be constructed with flotation to support the craft and its occupants in the event of capsizing.
Not be loaded with persons or property to exceed the manufacturer’s rated carrying capacity or in any event with more than 3 persons. Occupants are to remain seated at all times.
Not have any motor attached to it.
Not be used or operated at a greater distance from the shoreline than 200 feet, except in calm water conditions.
Be registered with the Pecks, and have affixed to both sides of the bow the owner’s original subdivision lot number (not the 911 address), prefixed by the letter L. Letter and numbers must be not less than 3 inches in height and be of a contrasting color. The craft must be owned by the property owner only.
Only be used when all New York State regulations regarding the use of Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s) are observed.
Not be operated by persons under 14 years of age, unless accompanied by an experienced boater 14 years old or over who has completed an approved NYS boating safety course.
Not contain any occupants who engage in any type of reckless activity.
Be equipped with lights if used after dark.
Canoes shall be a minimum of 14 feet in length.

Note: The above regulations cover canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats only. Rowboats and power boats are subject to specific regulations contained in deed restrictions and lake access agreements, and also to all New York State boating laws and regulations.In New York State , no one under the age of 18 is allowed to operate a boat unless they have a certificate certifying that they have completed an approved boating safety course.

WATERSKIING REGULATIONS

Note: The following rules use the words “Waterskiing, skiing, ski, skiers, etc.” Where these words are used, they also apply to any type of water sport where any object is towed behind a boat, including but not limited to tubes, other inflatable water toys, kneeboards, surfboards, etc.

Water ski hours will be from 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. and must be strictly observed.
All boats towing skiers must follow a counter-clockwise traffic pattern.
Towropes must not be left trailing from boats when not in use.
In accordance with New York State law, each towboat must carry an observer who is at least 10 years old in addition to the driver.
All persons observing water skiing from (non-towing) boats must stay clear of boats towing water skiers, and of the ski area.
All sailboats and all boats not engaged in skiing activities must stay clear of the ski area during skiing hours.
Skiers must ski in the water ski area only, not to and from their residence to the ski area.
Towboats must maintain a safe distance between them and the skier ahead.
All alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in the ski area during ski operations.

All rules will be enforced, and the following disciplinary actions will be taken against violators:

First Offense Warning
Second Offense Privileges Suspended for Two Weeks

Third Offense Privileges Suspended for the Remainder of the season

Excerpt from Peck’s Lake deed restrictions…..

Water skiing, and/or any associated, like, or similar water sports, will be engaged in on Peck’s Lake only in an area set aside, at periods of time and at increased rates of speed for boats, as specified and posted by parties of the first part, their heirs, grantees and assigns, and all water skiing, and/or any associated, like, or similar water sports shall, at all times, be under the exclusive jurisdiction, management and control of parties of the first part, their heirs, grantees and assignees

PECK’S LAKE WATERCRAFT SAFETY REGULATIONS

Any non-motorized watercraft launched upon the waters of Peck’s Lake shall:

Be constructed with flotation to support the craft and its occupants in the event of capsizing.
Not be loaded with persons or property to exceed the manufacturer’s rated carrying capacity
Paddle or pedal craft shall not have any motors attached.
Only be used when all New York State regulations regarding the use of Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s) are observed.
Not contain any occupants who engage in any type of reckless activity.
Be equipped with lights if used after dark.

Note: Boats rated to carry power are subject to specific regulations contained in deed restrictions and lake access agreements, and also to all New York State boating laws and regulations and the federal Coast Guard Boating Regulations.

In New York State, no one under the age of 18 is allowed to operate a motor boat unless they have a certificate certifying that they have completed an approved boating safety course.

PECK’S LAKE WATERSPORTS SAFETY REGULATIONS

Note: The following rules use the word “Watersports”. Where this word is used, it applies to any type of water sport where any object is towed behind a boat, including but not limited to tubes, other inflatable water toys, kneeboards, surfboards, etc.

Watersports hours will be from 11 AM to 5 PM and must be strictly observed.
No swimming at the water ski rafts, other than that necessary for watersports activities.
No mooring of boats other than tow boats at the rafts during watersports hours.
All tow boats must follow a counter-clockwise traffic pattern.
Towboats must use caution and keep a minimum of 30 feet from the raft.
In order to avoid congestion, towboats must not loiter at the raft.
Towropes must not be left trailing from boats when not in use.
All persons other than participants must stay off the raft.
No pets shall be allowed on rafts.
In accordance with New York State law, each towboat must carry an observer who is at least 10 years old in addition to the driver.
All persons observing watersports must stay clear of the designated area and participants.
All sailboats and all boats not engaged in watersports activities must stay clear of the area during watersports hours.
Watersports participants must begin and end their activities in the designated area. Towing from private docks is dangerous and not permitted.
All boats must exercise extreme caution in the immediate vicinity of the rafts.
Towboats must maintain safe distances between each other.
All alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in the watersports area during designated hours of operations, and on the watersports rafts at any time.
Fishing from the rafts is prohibited at all times.

All rules will be enforced, and the following disciplinary actions will be taken against violators:
